After college, he spent 7 years in contract manufacturing designing, developing and manufacturing products for high reliability markets such as medical, military, aerospace and satellite communications. With this manufacturing knowledge, he entered the industry of additive manufacturing and has been a consultant to customers and prospects looking to implement additive manufacturing. He works with companies trying to solve challenges with technology that is changing the rules of manufacturing. In his free time he enjoys anything that can get him in the remote outdoors from hunting and fishing to camping and hiking.

Description: In this session, Tim Newton and Schmit Prototypes will showcase how anyone involved with injection molded parts can benefit from plastic injection simulation with real life examples.  Attendees will learn best practices for incorporating plastic simulations early in the part design process to understand the impact different geometries have on manufacturability, and part quality. You’ll see how plastics can be used to design better injection mold tools and assist in determining idea injection molding process parameters.  Leaving the session you will have an in-depth understanding of plastics capabilities as well as how it reduces risk and improves part quality.

Who Should Attend? Specifically plastic part designers, mold makers and plastics injection molders, or anyone interested in learning how plastic injection simulation improves part quality and reduces risk.

My name is Lucas Brown.  I am currently the CNC/Tool Room Manager at Schmit Prototypes in Menomonie, WI.  I have been with Schmit for 11 years.  I started as a tool maker and now manage the shop.  In addition to the duties of Tool Room Manager I also do tool designs, mold flows, DFMs, and project management.  I have Experience with Creo, SOLIDWORKS, SpaceClaim, MasterCam, and Surfcam.  I have 20 years in the plastic injection molding field.   In addition to a machining degree from Chippewa Valley Technical Collage, I also served a tool maker  apprenticeship with a previous employer.  I continue to take training courses whenever I can that keep me up to date and current.
